Canelo vs Edgar Berlanga, Saturday night, live on Amazon PPV/DAZN PPV

Mexico and Puerto Rico will face off on Saturday night when unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) takes on very determined, undefeated challenger Edgar Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, live on Amazon Prime Video PPV/DAZN PPV.

Canelo Alvarez is a future Hall of Famer who has been the gold standard for several years. Like most super middleweights, Edgar Berlanga put Canelo on his radar early in his career and now he is ready to challenge for the WBC/WBA/WBO titles.

Edgar Berlanga, a product of Brooklyn, New York, started his professional boxing career in spectacular fashion when he scored 16 consecutive first-round knockouts. Over the course of his next five fights, Berlanga continued to win, but he was unable to score the knockouts that fans expected.

On the night of February 24, 2024, Berlanga was finally able to return to his usual winning streak after a three-year drought. With 25 seconds left in the sixth round, Berlanga hit Padraig McCrory with a brutal right overhand that sent McCrory to the mat.

McCrory attempted to get up, but as he struggled to get back to his feet, his corner ended the fight by throwing in the towel. Berlanga finally got a long overdue stoppage victory against a higher ranked opponent.

Now Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) has the chance to fulfill his dream as he will fight for the unified super middleweight world title. Berlanga is about to face a man many consider to be the face of boxing.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez made his professional boxing debut at the age of 15 and now, 19 years later, he has reached the point in his career where he is in charge. The 34-year-old Alvarez is the face of boxing and also known as the cash cow.

In November 2021, unified champion Canelo Alvarez defeated Caleb Plant by stoppage in the 11th round. With the win, Alvarez captured Plant's IBF title and officially became the undisputed super middleweight world champion.

Canelo Alvarez has successfully defended his undisputed title four times. Since Alvarez refused to face his mandatory challenger William Scull, the IBF decided to strip him of his title. Now Alvarez must defend his unified title against a young, hungry competitor.

The 27-year-old hard-hitting boxer from Puerto Rico is ready for his chance to be in the spotlight. He has heard the doubters' comments and is ready to prove them wrong.

Because of Berlanga's power, it would be cliched to say he has a chance as a puncher, but that may not be true because Canelo has one of the best chins in boxing history. Dmitry Bivol has shown that he can beat Canelo with defensive responsibility, a solid jab and plenty of punches, but is Berlanga able to follow the plan?

On Saturday night, September 14, Edgar Berlanga has the chance to make his dream come true. Berlanga believes Canelo underestimates him, and on fight night he plans to dethrone the king.

“He overlooks me and doesn't respect me,” Berlanga said. “Canelo is standing in the way of my dreams now. I'm the chosen one and I'm ready to be the face of boxing. I'm going to fucking knock him out.”
