Man accused of stabbing in Kalamazoo hit by police car and arrested

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A 33-year-old man was arrested on multiple counts of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing several people in Kalamazoo.

The incident began late Thursday, September 12, and continued into the early hours of Friday morning.

Authorities say two women were seriously injured after a stranger approached them and repeatedly stabbed them with a knife. Both women suffered cuts to their head and neck and were hospitalized.

Police said they were able to identify the suspect from video footage when they were contacted by a 25-year-old woman who said she had been punched in the face by the man.

Police searched the area with drones and sniffer dogs but could not find him.

Just before 4 a.m., a 51-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after reportedly being stabbed by the same man.

After receiving a tip about the suspect's whereabouts, police located the man and pursued him on foot. The pursuit ended when he was reportedly struck by a police vehicle. He was hospitalized and faced multiple charges of assault and attempted murder.

After his release from the hospital, he will be held at the Kalamazoo County Jail. Police said he acted alone and poses no danger to the public.

Michigan State Police are investigating the suspect's arrest and the officer has been placed on administrative leave.
