House fire in Prescott Valley reveals murder and suicide

Prescott Valley Police believe the three deaths discovered following a house fire Thursday were the result of a double homicide and suicide, according to a police statement released Friday.

The bodies of two women, ages 57 and 54, and a 52-year-old man were found in the fire, which was reported Thursday morning near Navajo Road and State Route 69.

Police said that in addition to the report of the fire, authorities were also informed of a woman's screams for help and gunshots.

When officers and firefighters arrived, they initially took up defensive positions and, after they no longer heard any gunshots, began fighting the fire, police said.

According to police, investigators found that the women had been shot multiple times and the man had been shot once.

Police did not identify the people found dead in the house.

Police also said the investigation had not revealed any other suspects other than those found in the house, but the investigation was still ongoing.
