Toddler hit and killed by car in Hillsdale County

LANSING, Michigan (WILX) – A 2-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car in Hillsdale County Friday night, according to Michigan State Police.

The accident occurred around 8:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Chicago Street in Allen Township. State police say their preliminary investigation shows the toddler was put to bed by his parents, but got out of bed and left the house while the parents were working inside the house. The child then walked onto Chicago Street, where he was struck by a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 38-year-old man from Allen, Michigan.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the toddler lying on the street. A paramedic performed life-saving measures until emergency services arrived. The girl was taken to Hillsdale Hospital, where she later died.

An autopsy is performed on the toddler.

Police say alcohol or drugs do not appear to have played a role in the accident. Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to contact the Michigan State Police Jackson Post at (517)-780-4580.
