1 dead in rollover accident on Route 25 in Trumbull

TRUMBULL, CT – An 18-year-old Rhode Island man has died after a two-car rollover crash on Route 25 in Trumbull.

According to Connecticut State Police, the crash occurred just after 11 p.m. Friday on Route 25 southbound north of Exit 9. Police said a BMW driven by a 61-year-old Vermont man was traveling south when another BMW driven by an 18-year-old man from Cranston, Rhode Island, came from behind.

At one point, police said, the 18-year-old drove to the right and struck the rear passenger side of the first car. The maneuver caused the 18-year-old to lose control of the vehicle and end up in the median, police said. The vehicle then overturned and crashed into several trees.

Police arrived at the scene and determined that Timothy Campbell of Cranston, Rhode Island, a rear seat passenger in the second BMW, had died in the accident.

The driver and two other passengers were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. The driver and a passenger of the first BMW were not injured.
