Suspect arrested for murder, accused of driving into crowd in Minneapolis

Minneapolis police said a suspect has been arrested after a fatal hit-and-run crash left a teenager dead and five other people hospitalized.

According to Minneapolis police, the situation occurred before 12:23 a.m. Saturday near 5th Street North and Hennepin Avenue.

Based on their investigation, police said an altercation occurred at this location between a group of people in the middle of 5th Street North.

An adult female then entered a vehicle, backed up Hennepin Avenue, and then drove the wrong way into the crowd before leaving the area.

Six people were injured in the accident and taken to hospital. One person, a 16-year-old girl, later died in hospital. Another person suffered life-threatening injuries and four others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman who allegedly drove into the crowd then left the city center and was followed by a witness.

Authorities later stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver for murder. Minneapolis police said the investigation is ongoing.
