Alabama vs. Wisconsin live stream, where to watch, TV channel, odds, spread, prediction, picks

No. 4 Alabama will be on the road for the first time in coach Kalen DeBoer's tenure when the Crimson Tide travel to Wisconsin on Saturday for one of the top games of Week 3. It will be Bama's first trip to Madison, Wisconsin, since 1928 and the Tide's first away game against a Big Ten team since winning at Penn State in 2011.

The contest will be Wisconsin's first time hosting an SEC opponent since 1971, and Camp Randall Stadium will be under pressure as the Badgers look to break out under second-year coach Luke Fickell. Not long ago, both coaches in this matchup were leading mid-major programs and competing for respect on a national level. Now, they're in the spotlight, competing against each other.

Fickell and DeBoer are tasked with leading two major college football franchises, and this showdown will be a litmus test for their respective programs. Both teams have a challenging schedule ahead of them for the rest of the year. The Badgers still have tough tests ahead of them against top-15 opponents USC, Penn State and Oregon, while Alabama still has to face top-15 teams Georgia, Tennessee and Missouri.

Given the challenges that league play presents for both teams, a non-league win in Week 3 would be hugely important to gain momentum. Both teams were far from perfect in Week 2, but both won against inferior opponents and went into the clash 2-0.

Alabama vs. Wisconsin: What you need to know

Cleaning up the offense: Alabama's offensive line committed nine penalties in the Crimson Tide's 42-16 win over South Florida last week. The unit's problems extended to run blocking for much of the game before Bama picked up the pace in the final six minutes, scoring three touchdowns. If DeBoer can use the error-ridden performance to motivate his team, it could lead to an inspiring performance against Wisconsin. But if the game against South Florida was emblematic of what's to come, the Crimson Tide will struggle on the road against a Big Ten defense. The status of sophomore left tackle Kadyn Proctor is also of great concern for Alabama after he missed the first two games of the season with a shoulder injury.

Wisconsin needs a spark: Wisconsin's offense also has a lot of improvement to make heading into Week 3. The Badgers are ranked 101st nationally with an average of 5.2 yards per play. In their first two games, they managed just five plays of 20 or more yards. Last week, the Badgers alternated between points and punts on every possession in their 27-13 win over South Dakota. While second-year coordinator Phil Longo probably hasn't dug deep into the playbook yet, it's clear the Badgers are still finding their way with Miami transfer Tyler Van Dyke at quarterback.

Rising stars on the sidelines: Just three years later, both DeBoer and Fickell were star coaches in the Group of Five. DeBoer led Fresno State to a 10-3 record this year with a near-win over No. 11 Oregon and a road win over No. 13 UCLA. He got his first Power Five chance at Washington in 2022 and made it to the top with a 25-3 record in two seasons. But now DeBoer replaces the legendary Nick Saban at Alabama and will have to prove himself again. Meanwhile, Fickell led Cincinnati to the College Football Playoff in 2021 as the Bearcats capped a two-year streak of undefeated regular seasons capped by back-to-back AAC titles. Fickell went 7-6 last season in his first year at Wisconsin and has a tough schedule ahead as he looks to continue making progress in 2024. Both men have the tools to be coaching stars in the years to come. But the 2024 season is crucial for both.

Alabama vs. Wisconsin Prediction, Tips

Wisconsin has been underwhelming on offense in its two games with Tyler Van Dyke, who transferred from Miami, at quarterback. Alabama barely got out of the game against South Florida in Week 2 as an endless barrage of penalties hampered the Crimson Tide's offense. In contrast, Alabama was solid on defense against a potent South Florida attack, holding the Bulls to 2 of 18 attempts at third down. Keeping Bama quarterback Jalen Milroe in check will be a challenge for the Badgers. But even if he gets loose, it's hard to imagine either team scoring enough points to top that score. Selection: Under 51.5
