Why is there no Premier League today? EPL return date after international break in September

The 2024/25 Premier League season is in full swing and Manchester City once again lead the table with three wins from three games and the best goal difference thanks to Erling Haaland's hat-tricks.

Arne Slots Liverpool are also in the same league as Pep Guardiola's team, having won all three of their games, the last of which was against arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Fans may notice that there are no games scheduled on September 7, 8 and 9.

Why are there no Premier League games this weekend?

The Premier League takes a break this weekend. 7 to 8 September due to a planned time window for international matches.

For most England players, the international break means they move from the Premier League into the UEFA Nations League or 2026 World Cup qualifiers, while others represent their countries in friendlies around the globe. Those who are not called up to their national teams stay with their clubs to train.

When does the Premier League start again after the international break in September?

The Premier League is only away for one weekend, so it will return with a full schedule on 14-15 September.
