Charges filed against woman who displayed a gun during a domestic incident in Storm Lake last week

Charges have been filed against a woman who was recently involved in a domestic dispute in Storm Lake involving a firearm.

According to Storm Lake Police, officers were called to the home at 704 Chloe Lane late at night on Friday, September 6. Police believe a domestic dispute occurred at the home between a man and a woman, during which the woman armed herself with a handgun and threatened to harm herself. No injuries were reported. The woman was taken into custody and transported to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.

When the police arrived in front of the apartment, they set up a cordon. The residents left the apartment after about 20 minutes and were arrested without incident.

Last Monday, September 9, Storm Lake Police charged 33-year-old Phonesavanh Hang with charges related to the incident, including first-degree burglary (a Class B felony), domestic violence, assault with a dangerous weapon (a misdemeanor), and possession of marijuana (first offense), a misdemeanor.

Police say the incident occurred in the evening, Hang entered the home without permission and an argument ensued. Hang is said to have armed himself with a handgun but eventually surrendered at the scene without incident. Hang was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail last Monday on $10,000 bail.
