Badgers lose conference opener | Wisconsin Badgers

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team opened Big Ten Conference play tonight, September 12, with a 1-0 loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

How it happened

First half
UW started the game with an offensive in Scarlet Knights territory.

In the middle of the game, the Badgers kept up their pace, scoring two corner kicks and two shots in a row.

With no goals scored in the first period, Wisconsin led in shots on goal (6-2) and corner kicks (4-3).

Second half

Rutgers came out of halftime with a different strategy and formation and was awarded a corner kick in the 46th minute.

In contrast to the first 45 minutes, possession was evenly distributed in the middle of the second half.

As the game became more exciting, Rutgers found the back of the net in the 79th minute.

Although no goals were scored, UW had the edge in shots on goal (9-7), shots on goal (4-3) and corner kicks (6-5).
