NC State QB Grayson McCall leaves LA Tech game and is replaced by CJ Bailey

RALEIGH, NC — NC State quarterback Grayson McCall won the game against Louisiana Tech University due to injury and was replaced by freshman QB CJ Bailey for the remainder of the game. McCall was injured late in the second quarter and left the game through the team tunnel before the team announced he would not return.

Bailey is a true freshman who played just one game in his career last week against Tennessee in the fourth quarter. The Wolfpack trailed Louisiana Tech 7-6 at the time of McCall's departure. LA Tech then scored a touchdown on the next drive, putting the Pack behind 14-6 immediately after McCall's departure.

McCall completed 9 of 13 passes for 54 yards and four runs for 22 yards on the ground before his injury. Bailey was 1 of 3 for 12 yards on his first two drives and ended his second drive with an interception that led to another Louisiana Tech field goal, making the halftime score 17-6.

While at Coastal Carolina, McCall ended his final year with the Chanticleers with a severe concussion that left him unconscious on the field last year, causing him to miss the final six games of last season after being hospitalized the night of the injury.

Bailey is a true freshman quarterback who was a three-star prospect at Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Florida. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound playmaker completed 215 of 301 passes (71.4 percent) for 3,125 yards with 47 touchdowns and six interceptions as a senior in high school. He also ran for 253 yards and two touchdowns.

“He came from such a good program,” Kurt Roper said of Bailey this offseason. “They've thrown the ball so much that his understanding and spatial awareness is at a higher level than a lot of guys when they first come in. He's played a lot of football with good players and against good players for a lot of years. He's been asked to do a lot in this offense. He's been impressive with a lot of the things he's done.”
