Motorcyclist killed in accident on Route 34 in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – State police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Friday evening on Route 34.

According to New Haven police, the collision occurred at 11:09 p.m. westbound on Route 34, east of South Orange Street.

The accident involved two motorcyclists, including a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R and a 2011 Can-Am Spyder RS.

Authorities report that the Can-Am Spyder rammed the rear of the Kawasaki Ninja.

The force of the impact threw both riders from their motorcycles.

They then slid across the sidewalk and collided with a raised traffic island.

Emergency crews took both drivers to Yale New Haven Hospital.

The Kawasaki rider suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the Can-Am rider, 49-year-old Noel Gonzalez of Waterbury, suffered serious injuries and was later pronounced dead.

Two traffic signs were also damaged in the collision.

The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad has participated in the investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
