Former adviser to New York Governor Hochul, who is accused of being a Chinese spy, took a tour of the White House

A former aide to Democratic New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who is now accused by the Justice Department of acting as a Chinese spy, took a tour of the White House earlier this year, a White House official confirmed to Fox News Digital.

Linda Sun’s visit to the White House was moderated by another Democrat, Representative Grace Meng of Queens, and consisted of “a tour of historic rooms and [did] Access to White House offices and staff and nonpublic information is not included,” the official said.

“Tours are available to all members of the public through the congressional offices and have been arranged by Rep. Meng as part of standard procedure,” the official also told Fox News Digital.

The New York Post quoted a source as saying that Sun's May tour took place at a time when she was already under investigation, and a few days later she posted on Facebook: “Tour of the White House [check emoji]See our favorite Congresswoman [check emoji]Tour of the Capitol with our favorite Congresswoman [check emoji].”

A spokesman for Meng told the newspaper that Sun and Meng had taken a photo on the steps of the House of Representatives chamber. “Obviously no one knew anything about what she is now accused of, which remains deeply disturbing and shocking.”

“If anything was known, her request would obviously not have been honored. The tour does not include the Oval Office, the West Wing, interactions with officials, or anything like that,” the spokesperson reportedly added.

In early September, authorities arrested both Sun, 40, and her husband Chris Hu, 41.

Sun is accused of violating and conspiring to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, human smuggling and money laundering. She is accused of acting on behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party. Hochul fired Sun last year after her office discovered evidence of wrongdoing.

“This individual was hired by the Executive Chamber more than a decade ago. We terminated her employment in March 2023 after discovering evidence of misconduct, promptly reporting her actions to law enforcement, and assisting law enforcement throughout the process,” Hochul's office said in a statement.

At the end of July, the FBI raided Sun's home on Long Island, New York, but no arrests were made.

In a federal court indictment, prosecutors accuse Sun of conducting “numerous political activities in the interests of the People's Republic of China and the Chinese Communist Party, including blocking access of representatives of the Taiwanese government to the office of the Governor of the State of New York” on behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party.

They said Sun “provided unauthorized invitation letters from the Office of the Governor of the State of New York designed to facilitate entry of government officials of the People's Republic of China into the United States to meet with government officials of the State of New York.”

“In return for these and other actions, defendant Linda Sun received substantial economic and other benefits from officials of the government of the People’s Republic of China and the CCP,” the indictment states.

“Sun and Hu laundered the proceeds of this scheme to purchase, among other things, real estate in Manhasset, New York for $3.6 million, a condominium in Honolulu, Hawaii for $1.9 million, and various luxury cars, including a 2024 Ferrari,” it continues. “Sun never disclosed to the New York State government any benefits she received from representatives of the People's Republic of China and the CCP, despite being required to do so as an employee of the New York State government.”
