Man charged with infant murder in 2023

A 30-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a four-month-old infant last year.

Ottawa police announced the charges on Saturday following a 16-month investigation into the death, which they say occurred on May 6, 2023, at a residence on Genest Street in Vanier.

The police's brief press release did not provide any further details about the relationship between the suspect and the toddler.

Police said Ahmed Mashkor was to appear in court on Saturday. He is accused of premeditated murder and failure to provide the infant with essential necessities.
