Man dies after being hit by police vehicle responding to emergency call

A man in his 60s died when he was hit by a police vehicle responding to an emergency call in Warwickshire.

The accident occurred on the B4113 Coventry Road in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, at around 8.45pm on Friday. The man suffered a serious head injury when he was struck by the vehicle.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: “Despite the efforts of paramedics, he unfortunately died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.”

The accident happened between the junction of Gipsy Lane and Griff Roundabout. Officers are appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone with dashcam footage or information about the incident to come forward.

“Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the accident, which occurred between the junction of Gipsy Lane and Griff Roundabout,” police said.

None of the police officers in the vehicle were injured in the accident.

The police expressed their condolences. A spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this time.”

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) for investigation, a standard procedure in cases involving police vehicles.

The IOPC will review the circumstances of the collision and the actions of the officers involved to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.

“As is standard practice with any death resulting from police involvement, the incident has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC), which has begun an independent investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the Warwickshire Police spokesman added.

“If you witnessed the incident, have dashcam footage of it or have any information which could assist with investigations, please report it to us either via our website or by calling 101 quoting incident number 359 of 13 September.”
