Are there any changes coming to Auburn’s offensive line for the game against New Mexico?

AUBURN, Alabama–After a disappointing loss to Cal on Saturday that featured a poor performance from Auburn's offensive line, there are more questions than answers for the group heading into Week 3. New MexicoSince Too Tall Miller was injured during the defeat and Ronan Chambers Interference on the right side, while the left side continues to rotate between Tyler Miller And Percy Lewistrainer Hugo Freeze said there will be some changes this week as Miller is dealing with problems in both hips.

“Too Tall was trying to come back, I think that was one of the hits that Payton (Thorne) just took while throwing,” Freeze said of the injury to Auburn's right tackle. “He just couldn't move, he's got a hip problem … it's not something that's going to end the season, thank God. It's probably going to be difficult for Too Tall to play.”

This could trigger a chain of events for Jake Thornton’s offensive line that Dillon Wade Move back outside to left tackle and have either Tyler Johnson or Percy Lewis move to right tackle. Both have spent time there in training camp, with Lewis taking the field as right tackle in practice just two weeks ago. Akron Transfer Ronan Chambers played as right tackle on Saturday and could also be in contention for playing time.

If Wade goes outside, it would likely be a combination of Tate Johnson And Bradyn Joiner as left guard for the Tigers against New Mexico on Saturday. Be that as it may, changes are coming to the offensive line in week three.

“We'll probably have to use D-Wade at tackle this week, and I'm not sure which one yet,” Freeze said Monday. “We'll discuss that. I thought Percy played his best game, which was nice to see. Tyler looked like a rookie at some points. We'll need all three. We'll probably use one on the left and one on the right, and the other will have to be the swing guy.”

“Chambers has played pretty well at times. He's played well in the run game. He's struggled a little bit in the pass game. That would be the four guys, but we'll probably see D-Wade taken out a little bit. Maybe not every snap, but I think you'll see him tackle a couple times this week.”

No matter who plays on the offensive line, Auburn will have to do a better job of staying ahead of the chains going forward to help a group that will have some changes this week. Freeze said avoiding situations like this will be essential to the offense's success.

“The key to it is I think we've done a good job of pass protection when it's not 3rd-and-10 or 3rd-and-12,” he said. “There's just been too many of them. We can't get in those situations. There's probably a lot of lines that are going to struggle if they can get their rabbit persons on defense and add four pass rushers, a fifth, and know you have to run routes to a certain depth to get a first down. It's very challenging. I think the key for us as a great pass protection team is to stay out of those situations and stick with the 3rd-and-5s.”

Auburn resumes practice Monday to prepare for Saturday's 6:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN2.
