Man charged with murder after fatal shooting in Caldwell County

LENOIR, NC (WBTV) – A man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Caldwell County Friday afternoon, according to the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the county communications center received a call about a shooting in Gamewell Township just before 4:30 p.m.

According to the sheriff's office, when officers arrived at the scene they found a man who had been shot multiple times. A subsequent investigation revealed that the shooting was the result of an argument between acquaintances.

The man who was shot later succumbed to his injuries.

Jeffrey Dewayne Ferguson, 49, was arrested and charged with murder. He was taken to the Caldwell County Detention Center without bail.

The investigation is ongoing.
