Eli Drinkwitz reveals Gus Malzahn's fast food orders at several restaurants

Missouri Head Coach Eli Drinkwitz began his career in college football as a quality control assistant under Auburn’s then offensive coordinator Gus MalzahnAnd the lives of quality control coaches and graduate assistants in college football are anything but glamorous. In the podcast with David PollackDrinkwitz revealed that he spent many of his days making food deliveries for Malzahn.

He knows all of Malzahn's fast food orders.

First, here is his order at Chick Fil A. “For breakfast, he gets a sausage burrito, hash browns, and a Dr. Pepper,” Drinkwitz explained.

And then there's Sonic. “Sonic gets a supersonic double cheeseburger,” the Missouri head coach continued.

Malzahn also liked Jimmy John's. “Jimmy John's, he's getting an Italian nightclub,” Drinkwitz said. “And at Taco Bell, he's getting soft tacos. And he's going to get about six of them.”

How did Malzahn cope with such a diet?

Drinkwitz said the former Auburn head coach has his body under control, talks to himself and convinces himself not to get sick. Malzahn even said he hasn't missed work in 28 years, so the diet seems to be working for him.

Drinkwitz also took on many other tasks as a quality control trainer

In Drinkwitz's first year as quality control coach for the Auburn Tigers, one of his most important duties was getting the coffee hot and ready for Malzahn. Although that was a bit more stressful than you might think, he had to be in the office before Malzahn. According to Drinkwitz, the Tigers' OC was “pretty conscientious” about showing up at the office at 7:00 a.m. and leaving well after midnight.

In an excellent article by Souichi Terada of the Kansas City Starit's easy to see why Drinkwitz is so loyal to Malzahn. The Missouri head coach began coaching college football after working his way up in high school. Drinkwitz worked his way up to become the offensive coordinator at Springdale High School in Springdale, Arkansas, the same place where Malzahn coached.

And Drinkwitz eventually asked Malzahn for the job as Auburn's quality control coach. And the Missouri boss began his career as a college coach with the Tigers. The only catch was that the job paid $15,000 and had no benefits. Somehow he and his family were able to survive on it for a few years.

As a quality control coach, Drinkwitz had many different tasks: He made game cards, analyzed film, brought breakfast and coffee to other coaches. He even drove assistant coaches to the airport when they went on recruiting trips or gave presentations at coaching seminars.

It was pretty amazing to watch his rise through the coaching hierarchy, leading the Missouri Tigers to an 11-2 record last year, their best season since 2012 when Gary Pinkel was the head coach in Columbia.
