The face of boxing for the past five years has been Canelo Alvarez. The Mexican superstar made history after becoming arguably the biggest PPV crowd-puller in the post-Floyd Mayweather era, achieving undisputed status in the 168-pound division while many believed he was fighting above his best weight class. Now he looks to continue his incredible run on Saturday night in Las Vegas as part of Mexico's Independence Day weekend.

Alvarez will put his trio of super middleweight titles on the line when he welcomes undefeated Edgar Berlanga to the ring at T-Mobile Arena.

While many had hoped to see Alvarez face someone like David Benavidez or David Morrell – two of the best fighters in the middleweight division in recent years who didn't get the chance to face him – the champion instead opted for a matchup that could draw more attention as it pits the longtime boxing rivals from Mexico and Puerto Rico against each other.

Alvarez crushed his compatriot in May, knocking out Jaime Munguia, while Berlanga began his career with a record-breaking first-round knockout streak in his fights at age 16. He has seemed more human since then, but his last fight against Padraig McCory was a TKO.

“It's easy to say you're going to knock me out, but it's much harder to do it. Saturday night is going to be very difficult for him for sure. I've been preparing for the knockout. I love the feeling of a knockout and I'm going to do my best to get it done,” Alvarez said this week. “I can't wait for Saturday night. It's going to be a great matchup for the people. Mexico versus Puerto Rico is always exciting.”
