HPD files charges against suspect involved in Hawaii Kai kidnapping incident | Crimes and Courts

HAWAII KAI, Hawaii (Island News) – The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) has filed charges against a man in connection with a kidnapping incident in Hawaii Kai.

On Wednesday 11 September 2024, at approximately 7:10pm, it was reported that 32-year-old Kaumoana Makekau had attempted to abduct his niece and child from his estranged wife's home.

The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) has filed charges against a man in connection with a kidnapping incident in the Hawaii Kai area.



Officials reported that Makekau attacked a neighbor who tried to intervene and damaged two vehicles while leaving the scene.

Makekau was located nearby and was arrested at 7:31 p.m. that same day. HPD charged Makekau with violation of a protection order, kidnapping, assault, and CPD2 and CPD4.

Makekau's bail was set at $500,000 on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
