Madison County man arrested on suspicion of murder and assault

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – Jared Boggs, 33, is facing multiple charges after police were called to the area of the 2700 block of Doylesville Road around 12:30 p.m. Thursday for reports of gunshots and a car crash.

According to a Facebook post from the Madison County Sheriff's Office, when police arrived at the scene, they encountered Boggs, who was later identified, and was disarmed by two people.

Boggs “approached Deputy (Josh) Foster with one hand behind his back and uttered threats” while Foster gave several verbal commands, the post said.

Boggs then went to the passenger side of Foster's patrol car, where he “attempted to remove the department's AR-15 mounted between the seats.” When he failed, Boggs surrendered.

An investigation revealed that Boggs had arrived in the area before police arrived to confront his wife, Hillary Snowden, and her friend, Kurtis Smith. Boggs struck Snowden with his vehicle and then rammed another parked car.

As Boggs exited his vehicle, he pointed his gun at both parties as a third person, Luther Lainhart, exited his home and told Boggs to leave. Boggs then waited up the street for Snowden and Smith.

As they left the area, both saw Boggs waiting. At this point, “Boggs drove toward them as they began to back away and rammed the vehicle, causing it to flip into the creek.”

Boggs exited his vehicle again, drew his pistol, and exchanged fire with Lainhart. He then entered the creek and handed his weapon to Snowden.
