Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic headline UFC 309 in New York City

Jones made his highly anticipated heavyweight debut at UFC 285 against Ciryl Gane, knocking out the former interim champion in the first round to join the venerable ranks of UFC fighters who have captured titles in multiple divisions. After the fight, Jones announced his desire to face Miocic.

The fight will be Miocic's first since losing the title in March 2021. The proud Ohio native holds the UFC record for most consecutive heavyweight title defenses (three) and most wins in UFC heavyweight title fights (four). The 42-year-old now hopes to attain three-time heavyweight champion status.

The co-main event in New York City is set to be a 5-round rematch between former champion Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler. The fight comes three and a half years after their championship fight in Houston at UFC 262, when Oliveira knocked out Chandler in a comeback fight. Oliveira defended his belt once, but has two losses in his last three fights against Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan. “Do Bronx” hopes to get back on track with a win and keep his place in the title race.

Meanwhile, Chandler is competing for the first time since his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281. Since then, former title challenger Conor McGregor has been training on The Ultimate Fighter. The two were scheduled to face each other at UFC 303 before an injury to McGregor delayed the fight even further. Chandler, 38, has repeatedly called for a rematch with Oliveira, with his confidence coming from defeating Oliveira 10-8 in the first round of their title fight.

UFC 309 is scheduled for November 16 in New York City. Stay tuned to UFC.com for updates on each fight card.
