4 dead in crash on I-45, officials say

I-45 was closed Saturday afternoon following a fatal accident in Dallas.

According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, several cars were involved in the accident on the highway near Simpson Stuart Road.

According to DFR, two cars traveling northbound were involved in the first crash, forcing one of the vehicles to cross the median and enter the southbound lane.

Two other cars then crashed into the vehicle, causing it to crash into a guardrail and overturn.

Three occupants of the car were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The drivers of both vehicles in the southbound lanes were taken to the hospital. One of the drivers was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the other car on the northbound lane was also taken to hospital for treatment.

The names of the victims were not released.

The southbound lanes of I-45 were reopened shortly after 9 p.m.
