Houston police are searching for two men who were caught on camera stealing a “large sum of cash” from an 80-year-old man

HOUSTON – Investigators need your help locating two men who were caught on camera snatching an envelope containing a “large sum of cash” from an 80-year-old man in southwest Houston.

It all happened on July 12 around 5 p.m., when the Houston Police Department's Robbery Division reported that the unidentified 80-year-old woman was using a crypto kiosk at a convenience store near Fannin Street in Midtown.

Surveillance video shows two men talking with their backs to the woman and one of them grabbing the envelope. The woman tried to stop them, but the video ends at that point. Police said the two men fled in a black car.

Crime Stoppers of Houston is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to an indictment and/or arrest of the attackers in this case by calling 713-222-TIPS (8477) or online.

According to investigators, in the days leading up to the incident, the unidentified woman received a call from a scammer who persuaded her to make several deposits into the Bitcoin kiosk. Police are expected to provide details of the investigation in a press conference at 10 a.m. Thursday.
