Piedmont police investigate domestic shooting, suspect charged with murder

Piedmont, Alabama – Officers with the Piedmont Police Department responded to a shooting incident on Hughes Street, where a woman was found seriously injured following a domestic dispute.

Piedmont Police were called to the scene in the late hours where they discovered a white female victim in a rear bedroom of the residence with a gunshot wound to the head. Although the victim was unresponsive, she was still breathing when officers arrived. Officers initiated emergency medical care until emergency responders from the Piedmont Rescue Squad and Piedmont Fire Department could begin treating the victim before transporting her to a local hospital for urgent medical care.

An investigation by Piedmont Police in conjunction with the Calhoun County District Attorney's Office and CFAF determined that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between the victim and her boyfriend, 42-year-old Damien Michael Bailey of Piedmont.

Bailey was charged with murder, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken into custody and transported to the Calhoun County Jail where he is being held without bail. An Aniyah's Law hearing will be scheduled in Calhoun County Court to determine his eligibility for bail.

The victim's name is being withheld at this time out of respect for her family. The investigation into the incident is ongoing and authorities continue to gather evidence regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
