Mazzccua among the Huskers performing tonight

Nebraska leading offensive guard Micah Mazzccua will not play in Nebraska's game Northern Iowa.

The lineman was excluded, along with Blye Hill And Javin Wrightaccording to the availability report published a few hours before kick-off.

Also noteworthy: Husker D-Lineman Jimari Butler was listed as questionable, although he is participating in the warm-up.

Mazzccua, who played in Nebraska’s victories over UTEP And Coloradodid not finish the game against Colorado, but gave interviews after the game. Experienced guard Heinrich Lutowski stepped in to finish the game against the Buffaloes and would likely start tonight.

Lutovsky missed the opening game against UTEP due to injury and has started four games in his Husker career.

The Huskers kick off at 6:30 p.m. on BTN against Northern Iowa, looking to get to 3-0 and complete their first undefeated non-conference season since 2016.

As for the other Huskers mentioned who are out, there is positive news that suggests Wright may return to action in the coming weeks. Matt Rhule this week mentioned the Sept. 28 game or thereabouts at Purdue as a possible target for a return.

NU also has to do without linebacker Mikai Gbayor in the first half on Saturday night. The linebacker must serve a suspension for the targeting call towards the end of the 28-10 win against Colorado.

“Who's going to start: V9 (Vincent Shavers Jr.) or Stef (Stefon Thompson)?” Rhule said of the linebacker spot next to John Bullock. “They're going to fight for it this week. Ceyair (Wright) played really well this week both at cornerback and on special teams. Those guys are going to fight to get on the field because I want a bunch of guys to fight. Fight to play well this week.”
