Coroner identifies driver in fatal highway accident

The South Carolina Highway Patrol confirms one person has died after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 26. Police said the crash occurred just before 10 a.m. Friday on I-26 East mile 46, 10 miles west of Clinton. According to the Highway Patrol, a 2013 tractor-trailer was traveling east on I-26 and slowly came to a stop. The tractor-trailer began to back up and skidded, striking the center barrier, killing the tractor-trailer driver. The Laurens County Coroner identified the driver as Barry Martin of Gilbert, South Carolina. Emergency medical services arrived quickly after the crash and began CPR efforts, but they were unsuccessful, the coroner said.

According to the Highway Patrol, a 2013 semi-truck was traveling east on I-26 and slowly came to a stop. The semi-truck began to back up and skidded, striking the center barrier, killing the semi-truck driver.

The Laurens County Coroner identified the driver as Barry Martin of Gilbert, South Carolina.

Emergency services arrived quickly after the accident and began resuscitation efforts, but these were unsuccessful, the coroner said.
