Cam Newton breaks out into a heated tirade about Tyreek Hill's police action

The Miami Dolphins defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-17 in their season opener. However, the Dolphins' Week 1 victory was largely overshadowed by the news that star receiver Tyreek Hill was brutally restrained by Miami-Dade police before the game. A video of the tense altercation was released, sparking outrage among players, fans and analysts alike.

While Hill's Dolphins teammate Jalen Ramsey called for the firing of the police officers involved in the incident, media personalities such as Stephen A. Smith and Charles Barkley also weighed in. Now we have Cam Newton's take on the situation, which he discussed at length on his weekly show 4th & 1 with Cam Newton.

Newton walked his audience through police footage of Hill's arrest, frequently pausing the video to provide commentary. While the former MVP addressed Hill's interaction with law enforcement, he made it clear that he hoped society at large would take something away from the incident

After several seconds of footage were shot showing a Miami-Dade police officer approaching Hill's car window, Newton interrupted the scene to speak out. “Brother, comply! … I'm just trying to keep you alive! Really, because I don't talk to Tyreek Hill any more than anybody else that gets pulled over on a daily basis,” he said on 4thand1show on X, according to ClutchPoints.

As video showed the Dolphins wide receiver rolling up his window, Newton yelled, “You don't get no privileges, brother! If you roll the window down and then roll it back up? Brother, don't do that, you can't do that… That puts you in danger. And you got to put yourself in the cop's shoes, he doesn't know what the f*** is in that f***ing car… [the officer] was exaggerated. I'm not siding with an officer, that's not what I do. I'm trying to say how this situation could have played out a little differently.”

When Newton saw a police officer become aggressive toward the handcuffed Hill, he responded, “Now we're talking about certain things that are normal for a black person in America, so why not make this a big deal because we can save somebody's life. We can really help people more than if we just say, 'Oh damn, that sucks what they did to Tyreek,' so no, bro, we need to hold both sides accountable. These things are necessary… Better safe than sorry.”

The segment ended with some hilarity. Newton showed a clip of Hill at a press conference after the Dolphins' win. The receiver expressed his respect for the police and expressed his interest in becoming a police officer. Newton responded wryly, “If he becomes a police officer one day, nobody's running out of his ass.”

Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels announced that an internal investigation into the incident has been launched. In addition, an officer involved in Hill's arrest has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into his conduct.
