Lake Forest couple arrested after police seize child pornography – Orange County Register

A Lake Forest couple was arrested on Friday, September 13, on suspicion of possession of child pornography.

On Sept. 7, 30-year-old Jonathan Garduno traveled to Costa Mesa to meet a 15-year-old girl he met online, according to a news release. The teen turned out to be a special investigations officer posing as a minor.

Garduno, of Lake Forest, was arrested at the scene for attempting to meet a minor with the intent to commit a sexual act, and his cellphone was seized as evidence.

Investigators said they discovered numerous videos and photos of child pornography on the phone. They also found that he had shared the material with others, including his girlfriend Khyla Kauffeld, 29, said Roxi Fyad, spokeswoman for the Costa Mesa Police Department. The number of photos and videos was not disclosed.

On Friday, Costa Mesa police investigators along with the Homeland Security Investigations – Orange County Child Exploitation Task Force executed a search warrant at Garduno's home, which he shared with Kauffeld. They found more evidence of child pornography, they said. Garduno and Kauffeld were arrested.

Both suspects were booked into the Costa Mesa Jail to await charges of possession of child pornography. Garduno was also arrested for mailing/selling child pornography and distributing obscene material depicting minors.

The couple were released on bail Friday night.

Investigators are asking the public for help in identifying additional possible victims. Anyone with relevant information should contact Detective Gardner at (714) 754-4937.
