Temperatures expected to drop amid record heat in Phoenix area

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Temperatures aren't that hot in Phoenix today, and the good news is they'll continue to drop over the next week.

We're seeing some big weather changes from Sunday into Monday as tropical moisture from the south interacts with an area of lower pressure moving north of the region.

Sunday is a first alert day as there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms with brief, heavy rain and strong gusts of wind. However, we are keeping a close eye on this as the models have dropped off a bit during the rain on Sunday.

The good news is that cooler air will move into the state and should push our highs into the 90s on Sunday and throughout the week, ending our streak of 111 days of temperatures above 100 degrees. Mornings will also feel comfortable and bearable, and nighttime lows will drop to below 70 degrees midweek.
