F1 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix LIVE: Race schedule and start time today, Charles Leclerc leads from pole in Baku

The Australian has achieved his second F1 victory – and it is the drive of the year for the McLaren driver!

Charles Leclerc takes second place, while George Russell surprisingly makes the podium!

Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez collided after turn two!

Sainz overtook Perez at the first corner to take third place. As Perez tries to reclaim third place after the second corner, the two collide and are both out!

Perez: “What the hell! Is he crazy?!”

Huge drama here! Virtual safety car!

“After the stop we were pretty close. I knew I had to go for it, made a pretty big lunge, did it and then fought for my life for 35 laps!

“It was hard work. This will definitely go down as one of the better races of my career.”

“This is a tremendous team effort and we are excited to see what the future holds!”

McLaren is now 20 points ahead of Red Bull in the constructors’ championship!

“On the hard tyres I struggled to keep the rear tyres in place. At the end I thought we were going to hit the wall. McLaren and Oscar did an exceptional job. It was a great shame for Carlos on the last lap. Not a good day for the team.”

“In the end, when Oscar passed me, I thought it was just a matter of staying calm and passing him again. I couldn't get as close as I wanted. We lost the race because I didn't defend myself on the straight as I should have.”

Strong words from Leclerc…

“With the hard tyres we were among the fastest out there – an added bonus was the podium finish.

On the accident: “It was pretty crazy. I was shocked that the VSC didn’t come sooner!”

“I don't want to get carried away by this podium today, there is still a lot of work ahead of us – hopefully Singapore will be a slightly better weekend.”

4. Lando Norris (+fastest lap)

“Yes! Well done guys, that was probably the most stressful afternoon of my life! That was a big step. What a day it was, thank you all!”

Two laps left for Piastri in P1, who now has a lead of 3.6 seconds – he’s almost there!

Norris has put an end to his title rival!

The McLaren takes sixth place with superior speed on the finish straight!

Norris also sets the fastest lap and, despite starting from 15th place, it looks like he could close the gap to Verstappen in the championship!
