Fatal accident: 18-year-old identified as victim on Route 25 in Trumbull

It happened on Friday, September 1, around 11 p.m. in Fairfield County, on Route 25 southbound in Trumbull.

A 2013 BMW X1 was driving south when another BMW, an X5, came towards it.

According to the Connecticut State Police, the X5 maneuvered to the right and struck the side of the rear of the X1 passenger.

The X5 went out of control, went into the middle lane, overturned and crashed into several trees.

As a result, a passenger in the rear seat of the X5, Timothy Campbell, age 18, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been notified.

The driver of the X5, an 18-year-old man from Cranston, Rhode Island, and two other passengers in the vehicle were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Route 25 South was closed for several hours while the accident investigation was carried out.

Trumbull Fire Department, Police Department and EMS arrived on scene to assist with medical care and traffic control.

The Accident Analysis and Reconstruction Team was requested and went to the scene of the accident to assist with the investigation.
