Report: Jordan Love out for several weeks due to knee injury

The Green Bay Packers have done everything in their power to make us believe that quarterback Jordan Love can play tomorrow against the Indianapolis Colts. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur stated that he is “leaving the door open” for Love to play, and Love does not need to practice to be ready for the game. The team even listed the quarterback as “questionable” on Friday, which is more of a true 50-50 estimate than a “doubtful” rating.

Still, Love is expected to be out for several weeks, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. According to Russini, Love's game against the Colts on Sunday is “not possible,” while next week's game against the Tennessee Titans is “unlikely.” According to her, “the most optimistic timetable” would be for Love to return in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings.

She also noted that Love is expected to wear a knee brace when he returns to the field. Russini also dropped a few anecdotes about backup starter Malik Willis in her article:

I first met Willis at rookie camp in Nashville when he was with the Titans in 2022. I stepped in front of our camera crew and extended my hand to introduce myself to the then-rookie. After a brief introduction, he approached the four-person crew and asked each of them their names. As he walked away, we all looked at each other and commented on the kind gesture – this was not a normal occurrence for our experienced crew. Willis answered all questions and expressed his gratitude for this opportunity to play football at the highest level.

He seemed a little innocent that day, but on the field and in meeting rooms, I'm told he's smart, hardworking, curious and confident. Willis is expected to be more comfortable in LaFleur's offense than he was this summer under new Titans coach Brian Callahan.

Willis' instincts (and success) are based on his mobility. However, according to one Titans coach, “the game looked really fast for him at times.” That might be the biggest problem for the Packers, getting Willis through his progressions while facing pressure from all sides.

How much one can trust a Russini report on the Packers can vary. Earlier this week, Russini reported that Green Bay had been in contact with free-agent quarterback Ryan Tannehill. That report was initially denied almost immediately by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and later during a press conference by LaFleur, who emphatically claimed they had not had any discussions with any free-agent passers.
