Verbal argument in apartment led to murder of a man

KANSAS CITY – Law enforcement investigating a fatal shooting in Kansas City have identified the victim as 36-year-old Michael D. Porter, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez.

Just before 10 p.m. on September 12, officers were dispatched to the 6300 block of Manchester Avenue for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on the scene, they were directed to an apartment where they found Porter unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot trauma.

The officers looked for signs of life but could not find a pulse. Shortly afterwards, emergency services arrived and declared him dead at the scene of the accident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Porter and an adult male suspect were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated into gunfire.

The suspect left the scene before police arrived. Police have not reported an arrest or any further details.
