Armed man arrested in Gwinnett after barricading himself in his home, which he allegedly set on fire – Your Local News

GCPD is looking for information on the case

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – (September 15, 2024) – Gwinnett County Police report a suspect is in custody after allegedly setting his home on fire and barricading himself inside. Jonathan Lee, 33, is charged with arson in the 1stDamage to property in the 1ststand disability.

According to a GCPD press release, officers from the Central Precinct responded to a call of a residential fire shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 14. A person armed with a knife exited a home on Gainesway Trace in Duluth. When officers arrived on scene, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the home. Officers found Lee inside the home armed with a knife and refusing to exit.

Gwinnett County Fire and EMS extinguished the fire while officers and mental health professionals attempted to negotiate with Lee to peacefully surrender. The Gwinnett County SWAT team was activated because Lee was armed and was able to arrest him. He was then transported to a local hospital out of an abundance of caution.
