Three people are being treated for injuries after a suspected drunk driving accident on a New Jersey highway

According to police, a driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after three people were taken to hospital in the early hours of the morning.

The accident, which occurred at 5:12 a.m. Sunday morning, closed a section of Route 3 in Rutherford, the Bergen County District Attorney's Office said.

According to police, 40-year-old Justin LaTorre of Newark attempted to make a U-turn in the westbound lanes, causing a collision with a passing 2018 Honda SUV. He is charged with three counts of assault and traffic violations, including driving under the influence.

Rutherford police arrived at the scene and found that three of the four occupants of the Honda had “injuries of varying severity.” The injured were treated at a nearby hospital on Sunday, prosecutors said.

An update on her condition was not available late Sunday morning.
