A dog died in the fire, police said

A 60-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger human life following a house fire in Crawley, West Sussex.

At around 3.15pm BST on Saturday, firefighters were called to a fire at a property in Creasys Drive, Broadfield.

According to Sussex Police, no one was injured, but a dog died as a result of the fire.

The arrested man from Crawley remains in police custody.

Police supported fire brigade on site

Sussex Police said its officers would remain in the area for the “foreseeable future” to reassure the public and while their investigation continued.

District Chief Imran Asghar said: “We are aware of the impact this has had on the local community, but I would like to reassure the community that we are treating this as an isolated incident.”

He said there was no danger to the general public and urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Crews and six fire engines from Crawley, Horsham, Storrington, Worthing and East Grinstead worked throughout Saturday afternoon and evening to bring the flames under control.
