Donald Trump's team has released an update on his condition after it was revealed that several “shots” were fired near the former president.

The 78-year-old former president played golf at Trump National Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday, September 15. when gunshots were reportedly heard.

However, according to a statement from Steven Cheung, communications director for the Trump campaign, Trump is safe. “President Trump is safe following the shooting near him. No further details at this time.”

Anthony Guglielmi, the communications chief of the US secret service, also said on X: “The Secret Service, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, is investigating a security incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2 p.m. The former President is safe.” There will be a press conference with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office with further details.

Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. also wrote to X: “Yet again, folks! Shots were fired at the Trump golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.”

“According to local police, an AK-47 was discovered in the bushes. The Trump campaign released a statement confirming that former President Trump is safe. A suspect has reportedly been arrested.”

The incident is a stark reminder of an assassination attempt on the former president in July at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which came at the height of growing tensions between Trump and President Biden.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, a resident of a nearby Pittsburgh suburb, was identified as the shooter in the incident and was killed by Secret Service agents shortly after he shot Trump. His shots also killed another attendee and seriously wounded two others.
