WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 (Yonhap) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was safe after a shooting at his golf course in Florida on Sunday, following an assassination attempt on the former president in July.

According to CNN, Trump said in a fundraising email that he was “safe and well” after the shooting at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach shortly before 2 p.m. His campaign team and the US Secret Service also confirmed that he was fine.

“Gunshots were fired near me, but before the rumor mill gets out of control, I want you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND I AM FINE!” Trump was quoted as saying in the email, according to CNN. “Nothing will stop me. I will NEVER GIVE UP! I will always love you for supporting me.”

The Secret Service said the incident is currently under investigation.

“The Secret Service, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, is investigating a security incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2 p.m.,” Anthony Guglielmi, Secret Service communications director, wrote on X. “The former President is safe.”

In a social media post, Senator Lindsey Graham said Trump was in “good spirits.”

“Just spoke to President Trump. He is one of the strongest people I have ever known,” he wrote on X. “He is in good spirits and more determined than ever to save our country.”

One person has been arrested in connection with the shooting at the golf club, CNN reported, citing a law enforcement source. Authorities believe an armed person wanted to attack Trump, they said, citing other sources.

On July 13, Trump was shot in the ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The shooter was dead and a spectator was killed.
