23-year-old charged with fatal shooting of his father, Painesville police say

PAINESVILLE, Ohio (WOIO) – A Painesville man was shot and killed by his son on Sunday, according to Painesville police.

According to a press release, officers received reports of a shooting in the 300 block of Stanford Street at around 12:53 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 67-year-old man who had been shot in his home by his 23-year-old son, Christopher Paul Farmer.

According to the press release, officers arrested Farmer and took him to the Painesville Police Department, where he was questioned and later charged with murder.

The City of Painesville Fire Department and the Lake County Coroner's Office, along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, were also on site to search the crime scene.

The farmer was taken to the Lake County Jail, where he will be held without bail pending his arraignment in Painesville Municipal Court at 1 p.m. Monday.

Painesville police said the incident remains under investigation.
