Motor transport trooper in critical condition after crash on I-75 | State

LINCOLN PARK, Mich. (WJRT) – A Michigan State Police trooper is in critical condition after his patrol car was struck during a traffic stop on I-75 Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on I-75 northbound near Dixie Highway in Lincoln Park.

According to the Michigan State Police, preliminary investigations indicate that a Ford Explorer struck the median wall before continuing on the highway, then rammed the patrol vehicle and pushed it into the rear of the semi-trailer.

At the time of the accident, the MCO was strapped into the vehicle. Hydraulic rescue equipment was used to rescue the MCO from the vehicle.

The MCO was taken to hospital where his condition is critical.

The driver of the Explorer was pronounced dead.

The driver of the semi-trailer truck was uninjured.

No further information has been released.
