Kelly Clarkson reacts to Carrie Underwood being named judge on American Idol

The 42-year-old stressed that Carrie was a “great choice” and added: “I think she's going to do great.” (More information from Kelly can be found at E! News tonight, September 12th, at 11pm)

And Kelly isn't the only one looking forward to Carrie's new job. American Idol Judge Simon Cowell Chancellor Angela Merkel also expressed her delight at the 41-year-old’s new role as judge.

“I think it's a good choice,” he said earlier E! News“Carrie, we've known each other for a long time. I remember her audition like it was yesterday. She was so good, she's such a sweet person.”

And Carrie's fellow judge Lionel Richie is excited that she will join him and Lukas Brünnespecially because of their idol Background.

“What a great judge,” said Lionel E! News in August. “Now we don't have to say, 'We know how you feel.' As artists, we know how you feel, but we've never been in that oval that says 'American Idol.' She's been there and been through it all.”
