Jean Smart opted for timeless elegance at the Emmys

A legend has arrived. Jean Smart, who is nominated for her lead role as the iconic Las Vegas comedian in the HBO comedy Hackingis on the Emmys red carpet tonight, taking her glamorous cues from her on-screen counterpart.

Smart walked across the carpet, along with other Hacking Star Kaitlin Olson in a timeless navy blue dress with sheer, flowing sleeves.

The actress, who is herself a legend in the comedy scene, is aiming for the hat trick tonight and hopes to win her third Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for her role as Deborah Vance in Hackingthird season. She already won the category in 2022 and 2021 for her portrayal of jaded stand-up comedy (Smart also holds three other Emmys – one for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series in 2008 for Samantha who?and two for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her recurring role in Frasier in the years 2000 and 2001.)

The role is very close to Smart’s heart. “As a child, I wanted to be a stand-up comedian,” she said Terms and Conditions in 2021. “When I was in middle school, I went to a costume party as Phyllis Diller. When my agent sent me the script, I said, 'You've checked that item off my bucket list.'”

She is also by no means the only representative from Hacking who were in attendance tonight – the series was nominated for 16 awards this year, including Outstanding Supporting Actress for Hannah Eibinder, Outstanding Supporting Actor for Paul W. Downs, Outstanding Guest Actor and Actress for Christopher Lloyd and Kaitlin Olson respectively, and Outstanding Comedy Series.
