Billy Crystal told us where he thinks his and Meg Ryan’s popular characters from When Harry Met Sally would be today.

The 76-year-old actor spoke to E! host Laverne Cox on Sunday ahead of the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards.

“They would talk about job cuts,” he said. “They're not ready for assisted living yet.”

“But they are still romantic, still in love,” he added.

When Harry Met Sally, one of the most famous and acclaimed romantic comedies of all time, tells the story of two friends whose love story marks the end of all love stories and who finally get back together 12 years after they first met.

And 35 years after the film's premiere, Crystal believes Harry and Sally would still “remain romantic” after all this time.

“They're probably having a great time with their grandchildren and finding new ways to get along,” he said at the Emmys.

Crystal also talked about how it feels to be part of a film that has had such impact and relevance for audiences over the years.

“It is extraordinary to be part of an evergreen [movie] after all these years,” he noted. “Young people are finding it, calls from film schools and 22-year-olds discovering the film, 21-year-olds, and I come to talk to them about it.”

The actor attributed the success story of “When Harry Met Sally” to the “great direction” of Rob Reiner and the “brilliant screenplay” by legendary author Nora Ephron, who died in 2012 at the age of 71.

Crystal also paid tribute to Ryan and his late co-stars Bruno Kirby and Carrie Fisher. “It was a small but powerful group,” he said.

The “City Slickers” actor was honored at the 46th Kennedy Center Honors last December and paid tribute to Ryan, telling People: “We were brought together by [Reiner and Ephron]chosen to be that couple, and who knows – almost 35 years later, we are still a couple to everyone.”

“As you move forward and new generations see this film and feel it and watch it over and over again, on Valentine's Day, on New Year's Eve, whenever,” he continued. “You know, every day people fall in love and every day people fall out of love.”

Crystal was at the Emmys a little over a month before the debut of his new Apple TV+ series, “Before.” Crystal plays a widowed child psychologist in the thriller, which also stars Judith Light and Rosie Perez. “Before” premieres on October 25.
