Man charged with intentional distribution of meth and fentanyl after police caught him nodding in a pickup truck outside a Greeley gas station – Greeley Tribune

A man faces two felony charges after police say they found meth, fentanyl and several items of drug paraphernalia on him after he was found sleeping in his pickup truck outside a Greeley gas station last month.

On Aug. 25, police arrested James Hill, 45, on charges of possession of narcotics with intent to resell – both meth and fentanyl – and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Colorado state court records.

On August 25, Greeley police were called to a convenience store in the 200 block of 22nd Street because a man was reportedly sleeping in his truck in front of the store.

When officers arrived, they saw a man – later identified as Hill – nodding off in the driver's seat of a black pickup truck, according to an arrest affidavit.

While one officer was speaking with Hill, another noticed drug paraphernalia clearly visible in the passenger seat of the truck, according to the affidavit. Police said they also learned he had an outstanding warrant out of Longmont for violating a 2023 protection order.

When police arrested him on the warrant, they found what appeared to be a meth pipe in his left front pocket, according to the affidavit.

According to police, a search of the pickup truck revealed a black shoulder bag containing suspected methamphetamine and three fentanyl pills. Officers also found three scales, several empty small baggies consistent with drug trafficking, as well as “numerous foils” and several glass pipes, the affidavit states.

The subsequent meth test was presumably positive and weighed 18.6 grams, the affidavit states.

A Weld County Drug Task Force investigator spoke with Hill, who said in the affidavit that he was buying “eight bullets” – or 3.5 grams – of meth, as well as “boats” of fentanyl pills. Police say a boat is a package of 1,000 pills.

According to police, Hill said he would buy the pills in boats for $1,100 to $1,200 and then sell them for $3 a piece.

He was arrested without incident and booked into the Weld County Jail. He is being held on $7,500 bail pending a death sentence hearing in Weld County District Court on October 25.
