Joe Mixon's return questionable after hip drop tackle

The NFL banned the hip drop tackle… except they didn't.

Referees do not impose the penalty on the field, but leave it to the league to deal with it during the week with fines. The NFL penalized two players for hip drop tackles that went unpunished in Week 1.

Bears linebacker TJ Edwards can expect his good letter this week.

Edwards made a classic hip drop tackle that injured Texans running back Joe Mixon on Sunday Night Football. Mixon's return is questionable due to an ankle injury.

Mixon twisted his ankle when Edwards illegally pulled him to the ground with 11:52 left in the third quarter.

After being examined in the medical tent on the sidelines, Mixon went to the X-ray room.

Mixon, who had 30 carries for 159 yards and a touchdown in the season opener, has seven carries for 20 yards and three catches for 25 yards tonight.

Substitute Dameon Pierce is inactive, so Cam Akers can make his debut with the Texans in Mixon's absence.
