Brawl at popular Lions meeting place ends fatally: One dead and one injured in shooting

A brawl at a popular Detroit Lions tailgating party venue turned deadly Sunday after the team lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field in Michigan.

Authorities said one person was killed and another was in critical condition following the brawl in Eastern Market, a neighborhood just blocks from the stadium. Detroit Police Chief James White said a man in his 30s was arrested, according to the Detroit News.

“Tailoring, alcohol and guns. They don't mix,” White said, according to the source. “This is ridiculous. If you want to fight, fight.”

“Everyone has to have a gun. It makes them feel strong. And now we have two people shot, one dead and another suspect facing serious charges, probably murder.”

White said the two people involved in the fight began to assume a fighting stance when the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at least two shots. One person was fatally shot and the other was taken to a hospital.

White said officers responding to the area in connection with the game arrived at the scene and immediately arrested the suspect.

“A violent fight broke out and broke up after a few minutes,” White said. “They regrouped a few feet from where the first fight had started.”

“The two fighters raised their hands as if they were going to fight each other… One of the fighters, an Oak Park man, pulled out a gun and fired at least twice. Two people were hit.”

According to FOX 2 Detroit, police said they seized two weapons at the scene.

It was not clear what sparked the altercation. White spoke of a “lack of conflict resolution.” He said the suspect had a permit to carry a weapon.
