“Only Murders in the Building” Season 5: Cast News, Date, Spoilers

Arconia residents should be prepared for further criminal activity on the property –Only murders in the building has been renewed for a fifth season at Hulu. The Wrap reported the news just a week after the show's fourth season premiered; they couldn't even wait until the finale.

“We've been keeping this a secret for about a week and a half now. It's very exciting,” said showrunner John Hoffman The Wrap on September 4. “We've been in the writers' room for two weeks now for Season 5. So it's moving pretty quickly and we're already in the swing of things.”

Season 5 will consist of 10 episodes, but further information such as additional cast and plot details remain under wraps. In the past, final episodes have ended with a cliffhanger, hinting at the central mystery (read: murder) that will be the focus of the following season. Perhaps this will be the case when the final episode of Season 4 airs on October 8.

The (fairly) early renewal proves that comedy starring Steve Martin (Charles), Martin Short (Oliver) and Selena Gomez (Mabel) may be too star-studded and too entertaining to fail. According to Deadline, the series has received 49 Emmy nominations to date, including 21 nominations for season 3 alone. In July 2024, Gomez received her first Emmy nomination for outstanding actress in a comedy series.

Season 4, which premiered on August 27, is perhaps the series' most ambitious yet, as the main trio head to Hollywood to potentially film their true-crime podcast. But negotiations stall when Charles' doppelgänger Sazz (Jane Lynch) disappears. The mega-watt list of guest stars includes Meryl Streep, Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Kumail Nanjiani and more. If Season 5 continues the trend, we can't wait to see what talent OMitB scoops up next.
