3 injured after accident in which 2 vehicles plunged into water next to GW Parkway in Virginia.

Three people were injured after a water rescue off GW Parkway in Arlington, Virginia, police told WTOP.

Three people were taken to the hospital Saturday after two vehicles collided and plunged into the water beneath George Washington Parkway in Arlington, Virginia, police told WTOP.

The U.S. Park Police responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on GW Parkway in the area near Arlington Boulevard just before 5 p.m., a department spokesperson told WTOP.

Both vehicles entered the Boundary Channel after the accident. WTOP's traffic center reports that the vehicles were struck by a tree after falling into the water.

The three people in the vehicles were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The GW Parkway was closed for several hours while rescue workers tended to the injured and removed the vehicles from the water.
