Student pilot veers off the runway and has to temporarily close Huntington Tri-State Airport

Huntington Tri-State Airport experienced a temporary shutdown Sunday after a plane failed to stop and crashed into the perimeter fence, HTS officials said.

The plane's pilot was a 42-year-old student pilot flying solo. He was practicing takeoffs when the plane veered off the runway and stopped at the airport's perimeter fence at 5 p.m., HTS Airport Director Brent Brown said in a statement.

There were no injuries in the incident, but the aircraft's propeller and main landing gear were damaged.

Brown said the airport's runway was temporarily closed for two hours due to the accident, but has since reopened for full service.

He continued his statement by thanking aid partners and airport staff for their response to the incident.
